Palak Trivedi

Professor Trivedi is a highly respected consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a distinguished career in managing complex gastrointestinal and liver conditions. With a patient-focused approach, he provides expert care for a wide range of disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, and swallowing difficulties. His expertise also extends to liver conditions such as fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disorders (including primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)), and genetic liver diseases.

Prof. Trivedi offers specialised care for the following symptoms:

In addition to his clinical work, Prof. Trivedi is an accredited gastrointestinal endoscopist with expertise in variceal surveillance, banding, and the management of gastrointestinal bleeding.

After graduating from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in 2005, Prof. Trivedi completed specialist training in internal medicine and gastroenterology within the Oxford Deanery. His commitment to advancing care led him to undertake doctoral research at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in Birmingham, focusing on gut inflammation’s role in autoimmune liver disease. His research has received numerous accolades, including awards for excellence in liver medicine and liver transplantation.

Prof. Trivedi is at the forefront of cutting-edge research, serving as Chief Investigator for over 25 clinical trials, including pioneering studies on how the gut microbiome can influence liver disease. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles, with his research focusing on gut-liver immunity, rare liver disease diagnostics, and symptom-directed therapies.

As an Associate Professor at the NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre, Prof. Trivedi holds prominent leadership roles in national and international study groups for autoimmune and rare liver diseases. He is the elected Chair of the British Association for Study of the Liver Special Interest Group for immune-mediated liver disease and plays key roles in global PSC and PBC study groups.

Prof. Trivedi is also deeply committed to education. He leads the gastroenterology and hepatology modules for Birmingham’s medical degree programme and supervises PhD candidates in advanced research projects. His dedication to teaching and research ensures his patients benefit from the latest advancements in gastrointestinal and liver care.
