Dr Vanja Giljaca is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Advanced Interventional Endoscopist, practising in the West Midlands. He is based at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) and sees private patients at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull and The Priory Hospital in Birmingham.
Dr Giljaca completed his medical degree at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, in 2003 and his gastroenterology training in 2015. He later obtained a PhD from the Royal Free Hospital in London and has been working as a consultant at UHB since 2016.
Dr Giljaca specialises in treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including dyspepsia, acid reflux, ulcer disease, and liver and biliary system disorders such as biliary stones. He also manages precancerous gastrointestinal conditions, polyps, and early cancers. In addition, Dr Giljaca has expertise in pancreatic disorders and performs advanced gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, including complex polypectomies. His skills in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are vital for diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts.
Recognised for his innovative approach, Dr Giljaca has introduced cutting-edge procedures to the West Midlands, such as Endoscopic Submucosal Resection and Full Thickness Resection of gastrointestinal polyps and early-stage cancers. He has also contributed to medical literature, publishing several scientific papers in leading journals.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Giljaca is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology and the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, where he has served on the Quality Improvement Committee. He is actively involved in training registrars and fellows in gastroenterology and frequently lectures medical students on various topics in his field.
